“Skambha upholds both heaven and earth; Skambha upholds the wide firmament.”
~ (Atharva Veda 10.7.38).

The south of India is home to some of the most ancient and sacred temples in the world. Kodaikanal is an especially sacred place in its own right. Temples such as the Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai, Brihadeeswarar Temple in Thanjavur, and the Shore Temple in Mahabalipuram are not only places of worship but also living testaments to the region’s rich cultural and spiritual history.
Skambha is the name of the land where the Aeon Centre of Cosmology (ACC) is located, established in 1986 near Perumalmalai in the Palani Hills of Tamil Nadu, South India. Skambha stretches across acres of hillside and pastures, bordering the Gangavar River, and lies about 18 km below the tourist area of Kodaikanal. The site serves as the physical and spiritual home for the Aeon Centre, which focuses on the cosmology and spiritual studies of Patrizia Norelli-Bachelet, and is supported by the Aeon Trust, a registered educational trust in India.
Skambha is a Sanskrit word meaning “support,” “prop,” or “pillar.” In Vedic and Hindu tradition, Skambha is also a profound cosmological symbol: it represents the cosmic pillar or fulcrum that supports and upholds the entire universe. The Atharva Veda uses Skambha to denote the Supreme Being or the ultimate foundation of all existence, the one who is the support and basis of the whole universe.
If one were to read any of Thea’s books (Thea is the name given to Patrizia by The Mother), then the name given to the Aeon Centre would make absolute sense.
