Skyscrapers and Everything…

I clean the windows on a 740-foot skyscraper. The first time, I felt like I was going to die, but now it’s freeing.

~ Lucas Da Silva

Can you imagine cleaning windows for a living? There is a saying that goes, “It’s a job, and somebody’s got to do it!” But I’m not talking about the panhandlers near the Third Avenue bridge onto Manhattan who are trying to scam commuters out of a few bucks to clean the windshield. I am talking about the guys who clean skyscrapers and high-rises for a living.

Imagine arriving to work before sunrise, running through the safety check, gathering the various tools and instruments, squeegees, extension poles, detergents and glass polish, etc. Looking up from the base of the building while your feet are still on the ground, and to paraphrase Jimmy Morris from the Rookie, you say, “well, today we ‘don’t’ get to play baseball.”

But it is a job! A job with a view!!
