Unsocial Unreal Un-Versed

“Social media shows us a very unrealistic face of everything. It makes you feel that you have thousands of friends when in reality, you don’t.”

~ Dr. Prem Jagyasi

How do I use social media? Hahaha! Not very well…

I have sporadically participated on various platforms but get bored pretty easily, despite some of the insanely creative and remarkable video posts.

I keep coming back to the idea that what I want to be is a creator (maybe an influencer) but scrolling seems like a huge waste of time. As a result my usage is hot and cold.

I left Facebook in 2016 because of the toxicity and momentum gathering around all things political, and 9 years later one has to wonder if the populist fever will ever break? To be fair I still have a profile, but I barely visit FB. I am more frequently on IG but there too my time is relegated to cross posting. I am mostly using Jetpack to get keep to my daily constitution of writing one thing everyday for a year before switching back to writing a more astrologically focused blog.

Still, it is amazing how some power users and influencers leverage and exploit social media in ways where they can even quit their day job. But for me life doesn’t happen online or in the metaverse. However, we do hear about life happening, or in the case of the Pope dying, we can learn about life happening almost instantaneously, even it is death. Just this morning I read a post on BlueSky (I scan BlueSky every couple of days) about SCOTUS voting to make Trump the new Pope. As soon as I read it and was trying to understand the joke, because I didn’t know, my wife yelled over, “hey the Pope died.”

Social media strategies and skill sets are no doubt impressive and I have my work cut out for me. Maybe one I get some of these “real world” projects put to bed I can devote myself to spreading the word through social media.
