LUCIDITY

“You’ll never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.”

~ John C. Maxwell

When the day begins, if I am aligned and my mind is right, there are a few things I do that set the stage.

My time spent in QUIET or prayer no doubt acts like a seed for the rest of the day to unfold.

Practicing my personal MANTRAS follow, combined with VISUALIZATION, like for example an Olympic skier at the starting gate. Rocking back and forth and side to side, intently focused in his bindings, imagining in his mind’s eye the “day’s” run ahead.

WORKING OUT is a must! Either exercise or if I am short on time, doing something physical around the house that requires effort; Combining exercise with house chores. My body responds by getting stronger and in the case of work around the house, maybe I fix something or beautify my environment in some way — even if it’s small — that brings immense satisfaction.

Everyday I also READ something. But someone once said to me, “you read too much!”, which I think this can be true if what one reads isn’t put to good use. One of the things I’ve been working towards is doing exactly that. So my reading has been accompanied by massive note taking which has been systematically organized in a shareable format. Not like a large language model or A.I. program, which in practice works like a temporary crutch, making one look like they know more than they do. My goal has been to organize information in a way that makes the material useful and accessible no matter where I am, even if I am off in a remote mountain range sitting around a campfire at four thousand feet.

Of all the everyday things I do the one thing that stands out, that brings me some measure of fulfillment (happiness is overrated), WRITING needs to be at the top of the list. Until I had read Professor McItyre’s paper on writing skills called Lucidity and Science, I felt as if I wrote well enough. I discovered McItyre’s paper many years ago when I went searching for methodologies to help me develop more coherence in my own writing and overall communication. One of my teachers, Patrizia Norelli-Bachelet, was in my experience the most coherent writer I’d ever read. In fact, I would put her work up against any writer in history for her remarkable way with words. In some measure I have made progress, but the forward movement has come in fits and starts. Suddenly, however, after many years of plodding along I feel an excitement and frankly surprise, at the sense of freedom and independence; a rebelliousness to breakaway and breakthrough in ways that amplify my individuality through the life changing habits enumerated above.
