“What you are to be, you are now becoming.”
~ Carl Rogers

Gravity is a force that keeps us grounded—literally—but it also symbolizes the invisible weight of our fears, limitations, and doubts—emotions that hold us back from reaching our full potential. Gravity, of course, is essential for life as we know it, but imagine if we could tweak “the force that holds us down” just a little so that we felt lighter, freer, and less constrained in pursuing our hopes and aspirations.
If we could change the Law of Gravity, we might create a world where people feel less burdened by the heaviness of self-doubt or pressed by societal expectations. With less gravity—both physically and metaphorically—we could leap higher, dream bigger, and explore new possibilities without feeling tethered to what seems impossible. It would mean unleashing a mindset where hope and ambition are no longer weighed down by fear but are instead buoyed by a sense of limitless potential.
Of course, we need some gravity to keep us connected to reality, but wouldn’t it be amazing if we could adjust it just enough to let our dreams soar? By lightening the load of gravity—both the physical law and the metaphorical example for life’s constraints—we could create a world where hope and aspiration truly have no limits.
If I could change one law, it would be the Law of Gravity—not to eliminate it entirely, but to imagine life with a little less weight holding us down. As just mentioned, gravity, both as a physical force and as a metaphor for all of our fears, doubts, and societal expectations, can feel like it limits our ability to hope for and aspire to a better way of life. But if we think about living with much less gravity—like on Mercury, for example—there’s a risk that ideas might not fully evolve into realized actions. Without resistance or constraints, there would be no need to overcome, no progress to strive for, and no growth to achieve.
Carl Rogers, one of the founders of humanistic psychology said, “Growth occurs when individuals confront problems, struggle to master them, and through that struggle develop new aspects of their skills, capacities, views about life.”
This is where the “Law of Naturalness” comes into play: life unfolds as a balance between the forces that hold us back and the will to rise above them. We need gravity in order to defy it. Our fears and doubts are not obstacles to avoid but challenges that teach us how to grow. So perhaps the real way to “change the law” is not by removing gravity but by learning how to work with it—using its weight as an impetus for transformation and progress.
