“I like coffee because it gives me the illusion that I might be awake.”
Lewis Black

Yesterday I did something extraordinary. It took all day! So, I’m in no mood to talk about snacking, and especially just after the holidays which reversed some of the progress I’d made through much of the rest of the year leading into late December. I had dropped 20 pounds. The hard way. mostly exercise and not necessarily dieting but watching what I eat and scaling back on portions. Oh, and that intermittent fasting thing. Oh oh oh and my artisan homemade sourdough bread of course.
If you make a rule that you’ll only eat the bread you make, well, that’ll cut back your carb intake. Plus, the sourdough doesn’t stick to your insides the way commercially processed bread does.
But right now, I am looking forward to that “perfect blend” of coffee because it’s morning and I hear the pot gurgling. Just waiting for the soft gentle beep that sounds like a delivery truck backing up to the loading dock which says, “let’s go people! It’s time to start the day!”
In astrology I learned to appreciate the Sun and Moon Blends as a way to better understand personality potentials. It’s an amazing yet nuanced approach that synthesizes the light force, the source of our being and becoming, The Sun, with our regnant need or whatever it is that motivates us, sometimes unconsciously, our inner drive to be who we are, The Moon. Every sip of coffee reminds me that there is no “perfect blend” in astrology.
Besides, I just woke up! Or at least I think I’m awake!
Jon Kabat-Zinn wrote a book called “Wherever You Go There You Are” which is a funny title to me because it’s a famous line that the famed New England astrologer Isabel Hickey was fond of saying. She meant in a tongue in cheek kind of way, that wherever you go, you basically take your birth chart with you. She apparently did not give much weight to relocation astrology. Sometimes we just need to be mindful of where we are, and what we bring with us along the way, to be fully present.
“The best way to capture moments is to pay attention. This is how we cultivate mindfulness. Mindfulness means being awake. It means knowing what you are doing.”
Jon Kabat-Zinn
I think this quote beautifully captures the essence of being truly awake – not just physically, but mentally and spiritually, being present in the moment.
Fast forward to a warm cup in hand.
Right now I KNOW I am sipping coffee.
