The Astral Core

The Importance of the Sun and Moon in a natal horoscope is so paramount that I have dubbed this dynamic duo, with modifications of course from other aspects in astrological analysis, The Astral Core.

The core is the central part of something that provides stability, strength, and energy. While the benefits of “working your core” for optimum fitness have been well documented, we can also look at analogous examples of how the core of anything is just as vital.

Physical trainers and fitness coaches teach us that the core of the human body consists of the muscles around the trunk and pelvis, including the stomach, back, hips, and glutes. These muscles are responsible for supporting the spine, maintaining posture, transferring force, and stabilizing movements. Working from your core can improve your balance, coordination, power, endurance, and prevent injury. According to the Mayo Clinic, core exercises can also help you with everyday activities, such as bending, lifting, twisting, and sitting. 1. Moreover, core exercises can tone your abs and enhance your appearance.1. Surely The Astral Core is no less important.

The core is not only vital and essential in the body, but it also needs to be the central focus for the function and survival of other systems. For example, the core of a nuclear reactor is where the nuclear fission reaction takes place, producing heat and electricity. The core of a star is where the nuclear fusion reaction occurs, releasing light and energy (elsewhere I liken the birth of a star to our own births — a fusion, not a fission). The core of a cell is the nucleus, which contains our genetic material and regulates the cell’s activities. Without a core, systems would be prone to becoming a void, and not be able to perform their roles or exist.

The core, therefore, is a crucial component of any system, whether it is biological, physical, or technological. We can easily appreciate how this axiom translates to astrology when we think about it in terms of physical fitness and training. How interesting if we could survey every Peleton trainer and count the number of times they shout out “work from your core?” Why? Because working from your core can benefit your health, fitness, and well-being. Similarly, maintaining the core of any system can ensure its efficiency, safety, and longevity. So, why not work your Astral Core this year? To begin let’s ask a simple question: What is the core concern suggested by your natal chart?
